Ramakrishna Mission Primary School, Tailevu
During Swami Rudranandaji Maharaj’s time, Ramakrishna Mission leased 1033 acres of Native land in Tailevu. It is located in the Eastern part of the island of Viti Levu, about 240 kms from Nadi and about 40 kms from Suva. Swamiji later wanted to start a University there and even started some tutorial classes but the project had to be abandoned when the then Fiji Government started its own regional University of South Pacific in Suva.
Consequently, some farmers settled on the land. At present there are about 18 farming family tenants on the land. In the 1990s, after the coup, the children of these farmers had difficulties with their education and approached Swami Damodaranandaji for a place to start a school for their children. An old building lying idle was given to them for this purpose.
Accordingly, Ramakrishna Mission Primary School, Waidalice, Tailevu, was started in 1994. It is registered with the Ministry of Education under Ramakrishna Mission, Fiji. There are about 200 students in the school. It is managed by a committe appointed by the Ramakrishna Mission, Fiji.
