SVC ICT Project
The Ramakrishna Mission is engaged in various service activities in the spirit of Swami Vivekananda's teaching of "Worship of God in Man." We are very grateful to our devotees, friends, ex-students and well-wishers who support us in these service activities.
Swami Vivekananda College ICT Project
To keep pace with the developments in the field of education for the 21st century, the College has embarked on a much needed IT project to introduce eLearning and eTeaching technologies so that the teachers and students have better facilities which will enable them to compete and succeed on the global playing field. We propose to set up a College intranet of 250 computers connected to a powerful server. The server will house a rich library of professional educational softwares and content developed in-house by our teachers according to the curriculum of Ministry of Education, Fiji.
- Computers for Teachers: We have provided 16 P4 desktop computers in the staffroom for the teachers to learn and start putting their lessons in electronic format. We are glad to inform that the teachers are making very good use of these machines. It will be ideal for them to have a laptop each.
- Multimedia Projectors for Classrooms: We have provided two (2500 lumen) multimedia projectors to the teachers and they are using the same in classrooms to make their classes more interesting, effective and productive. We would like to add another 4 multimedia projectors (FJ$1500), 5 more portable screens and 6 laptops so that more teachers can have access to the same.
- Computers: We currently have about 25 P4 machines in our computer labs. We would like to have a total of 250 computers. So far, we have obtained as donations 125 used P4 computers from schools in Brisbane. Thirty of these machines came complete with LCD monitors. We have to placed an order for 100 LCD monitors from Singapore at FJ$220 per piece. Furthermore, we placed an order of 100 ex-leased computers from Auckland (P4, 2.4GHz, 512MB RAM, 40 GB HDD, CDROM, 17" LCD monitors) for FJ$250 each. They are expected to reach here by mid-April 2010. Thus the College has already committed about FJ$50,000.
- Server and networking accessories: The network will be connected to computers in 4 computer labs, library and staffroom. Quotations have been obtained for the server and accessories. The equipment will cost us $28,000. Our ex-students working locally in IT sector have volunteered to provide free installation services
Business houses or organisations may sponsor a computer lab and the College will name the lab after them (furnishing each lab will cost about $20,000)
Donate or sponsor multimedia projectors at $1500 each.
Sponsor the server. This will be acknowledged by placing acknowledgements on the screen savers, wall-papers on all computers.
We would like our teachers to have laptops so that they can conveniently work from home and College. So if you have laptops which you do not need, then please send them across and we will make good use of them.
